Dying to Know Day is an Australian initiative held annually on 8 August. It began as a day of action to encourage open and honest conversations about death and dying, and end-of-life planning. It has now become a year-round campaign.
Many events are held throughout August for people to find out what end-of-life services exist, what options are available, and how they can be supported to make their wishes known so they can be honoured.
Throughout the year, events such as Death Cafés, Council and Health Department-sponsored presentations, and Memorial Park open days are held in local communities so people can become more comfortable talking about death because it is a fact of life, and it comes to all of us in time.
Any day is a good day to begin the conversation and share your wishes for your end of life. The sooner, the better!
