At Together With You, we meet with our clients in their home, hospital, other health facility,

or in a venue of their choosing in the community .

This Work Health and Safety Policy focuses on home and community visits to ensure safety for both doula and clients.

It is informed by, and aligns with, guidelines and best practices from NSW Health and related organisations.

Policy

1. Purpose

This policy outlines the commitment of Together With You to maintain a safe environment during home and community visits, ensuring the well-being of both clients and the doula.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all services provided by Together With You in clients' homes or community settings across New South Wales.

3. Policy Statement

Together With You is dedicated to:​

  • Identifying and managing risks associated with home and community visits

  • Ensuring personal safety during all service interactions

  • Complying with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) and relevant guidelines​

4. Risk Management

4.1. Pre-Visit Assessment

Before any visit:

  • Conduct a risk assessment considering factors such as location, time, and client history

  • Use a standardised checklist to evaluate potential hazards

​4.2. Communication

Maintain clear communication protocols:​

  • Inform a designated contact person of visit details, including time and location

  • Establish check-in procedures before and after visits

4.3. Safety Measures

During visits:

  • Carry a mobile phone with emergency contacts readily accessible

  • Ensure easy access to exits and avoid confined spaces

  • Trust instincts; if a situation feels unsafe, leave immediately and report the incident​

5. Infection Control

Adhere to hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infections:​

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary

  • Sanitise hands before and after each visit

  • Stay updated on vaccination requirements and health alerts

6. Incident Reporting

All incidents, near misses, or safety concerns must be documented and reviewed to improve future safety measures

7. Training and Review

Regularly participate in training sessions on safety protocols and review this policy annually to incorporate any changes in regulations or practices.
